On behalf of the women of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, WELCOME to the Minnesota South District LWML web site. We are pleased to have you join us!
Two months ago I was taking a small winter break with my husband in Florida. We heard on the news about the coronavirus on the cruise ship. Never did we think in a couple of weeks the United States would be in a pandemic. As the weeks went along, state regulations had become active, schools were closed, no more than 10 people were able to gather together, and social distancing became the practice. We were also told, “Stay at home.” Churches decided to follow guidelines, and sadly, we were no longer able to worship together. We are thankful for technology that brings the church services into our homes.
The world became different. Uncertainty set in. We had Spring Rally events planned along with our 2020 LWML MN South District Convention scheduled for June. We wondered if we would be able to hold them. As your president, I knew I would have to make decisions concerning these events. Each day was the uncertainty of what tomorrow would hold or what the future would look like.
Sitting at my desk, I would look out my window and see the snow still on the ground. I could see each day the snow was melting away. So, I knew the snow would go away this year. I knew I would be able to enjoy summer and warm weather would soon be here. But with this coronavirus, I don’t know how long it’s going to be here for us to deal with or even how bad it’s going to get. It’s the uncertainty!
I thought about Easter morning when Mary and some of the disciples went to the tomb and found it empty. They didn’t know what Scripture tells us that Jesus was alive. They were uncertain of what had happened to Jesus’ body or what to do. We know and believe with what Scripture tells that Jesus rose on the third day, defeated the devil and claimed victory over death.. With this we let the Holy Spirit grab hold of our attention. With this, we trust and believe that Jesus will lead us in making our decisions in serving Him.
The LWML MN South Executive Committee has decided to cancel the 2020 LWML MN South District Convention scheduled for June 19-20, 2020 at Wilmar, MN. We are planning a one day celebration LWML event in the fall. We will keep our theme “Tell Everyone What He Has Done!” along with our convention verse Isaiah 12:5. Continue to watch our website for details as they unfold.
As we go through this COVID-19 together, continue to trust God who controls the world and has sent Jesus, who has claimed victory over death. God knows each of us by name and loves us. One thing we can be certain of, even though we can’t see Him, we know that He’s here with us.
In God We Believe and Trust!
Deb Vinkemeier, President
The mission of the Minnesota South District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world. (Adopted 1988)
The League Pledge
In fervent gratitude for the Savior’s dying love and His blood-bought gift of redemption we dedicate ourselves to Him with all that we are and have;
And in obedience to His call for workers in the harvest fields, we pledge Him our willing service wherever and whenever He has need of us.
We consecrate to our Savior our hands to work for him, our feet to go on His errands, our voice to sing His praises, our lips to proclaim His redeeming love, our silver and our gold to extend His kingdom, our will to do His will, and every power of our life to the great task of bringing the lost and the erring into eternal fellowsip with Him. Amen
