Mite Update

Mission Grant Mite Update

Dear LWML sisters,

In December we collected $9,479.14 in mites! This makes total mites collected so far at $91,561.14. As we enter 2021 the coronavirus is still in the news and the virus is still spreading.  Good news is that we have a vaccine and hopefully by the end of spring or early summer it will be available to all.

I'd like to share with you the January 1, 2021 prayer from our President Deb Vinkemeier:

New Year - New Beginnings

You make known to me the path of life, in your presence there is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

Lord, as we begin a new year, may my eyes be open to all the pleasures You place upon my path. May I always be full of joy knowing that You are walking with me down my path of life.

One of the objectives of the LWML Minnesota South is to gather funds for mission grants – in this season of giving please do not forget what LWML means to you. If you are unable to give mites at your local society this month, consider using the link “Give Online” on the home page under the Mite Goal graph.

  • Our goal can be met through mite contributions, Mission Grant Memorials, Mission Grant Donations, Thrivent Choice dollars, Prayer Service offerings, Amazon Smile, or Joyful Response.
  • Joyful Response is a way to use direct deposit each month. When you sign up, funds are automatically transferred on the date you specify. This form is listed under Resources/Forms.
  • Donate electronically by clicking on the “Give Online” button on the home page.
  • Contribution forms for Zones, Societies, and Individual Members can be found under Resources/Forms/Contribution Forms on the home page.

What is a Mite box?

It’s a cardboard box (3-1/8” x 1-3/4” x 2-1/4”) designed by LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) to receive thank offerings, above and beyond our regular church giving. It holds pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars and checks.

Mites collected in Mite Boxes are used to support mission grants selected at conventions.

From Scripture we read, Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything - all she had to live on. (Mark 12:41-43).
